STEM Tech

STEM Tech Club is a hybrid group that combines coding and robotics with STEM engineering. Almost every project includes coding and students in this group are challenged to move beyond block-based coding. Some projects are kits, while others are design challenges dreamed up by the group. Students in grades 6 – 8 are welcome. Each child attends with an adult teammate, i.e. parent, grandparent, mentor, older sibling, etc. Projects in the last few years include a cardboard lockbox, remote control car, a smart house, and a kinetic art project. Each project uses the Engineering Design Process and lasts about 6 weeks.

Each child/adult team will need the following for the fall semester:

1. Paid registration or scholarship. To keep STEM Tech accessible, we use a Pay What You Want model. Each 6-week quarter costs about $50 per student in materials. We ask families to contribute at least $20 per quarter to help cover these costs.

2. Commit to regular attendance. Our projects usually take several weeks to complete.

3. The ability to set up a free web account for Tinkercad and Scratch.
